2001 Regular Season: Well, Schultz did sign with the Roughriders after an unsuccessful tryout with the San Diego Chargers, where he was one of the last cuts. Is expected to try the NFL again after this season after receiving several offers from other NFL teams when he was released by the Chargers. The first pick overall in the 2001 CFL Canadian draft, Schultz has elected to play with the Riders for the remainder of this year, rather than spending time on some other NFL team's practice roster.

2001 Pre Season: Hometown kid is almost unlikely to join the Riders this year after signing a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers. Is big and extremely strong, having won many powerlifting championships at North Dakota. Has a non-stop motor and never gives up on a play. Despite being close to 300 pounds, Schultz runs a 4.9 in the 40. If he were to join the Riders this year, would not take him long to step into a playing position on a weak Rider defensive line.
